May 2026, Harmony Hill in Shelbyville, TN welcomed Freedom Sings USA which provides songwriting and music-arts therapy programs for Veterans and Military families for a songwriting retreat with professional hit songwriters from Nashville to pair up with 6 veterans to listen, learn and write their stories into song. Songwriters included:
Don Goodman: A four-time Grammy-nominated, award-winning songwriter and co-founder of Freedom Sings USA, recognized as one of the most respected figures in Nashville songwriting. He is widely known for penning country classics such as Blake Shelton’s “Ol’ Red” and Alabama’s beloved anthem “Angels Among Us.”
Steve Dean: A Grammy-nominated songwriter and co-founder of Freedom Sings USA. Mr. Dean has co-written six Number One country hits and songs recorded by esteemed artists including The Oak Ridge Boys, Alabama, George Strait, Lee Greenwood, and Reba McEntire.
Dave Gibson: A highly regarded country music songwriter who has composed hit songs for Alabama, Tanya Tucker, Conway Twitty, “Ships That Don’t Come In” for Joe Diffie, and numerous others.
Gary Gentry: Known for his authentic lyrics and melodic sensibility. Mr. Gentry has written songs for legendary artists such as Johnny Cash, George Jones, and Ray Charles.
